Executive Coaching

What I Do

I specialize in one type of executive coaching: Helping successful people become even more successful. Since 1990 I have used the Marshall Goldsmith Coaching Process (featured in The New Yorker, Forbes, and Harvard Business Review) working with leaders - primarily from Fortune 500 companies. The common denominator is they have all been successful, high-potential individuals whose organizations what to accelerate their development. I work with leaders for six months to a year to help them prepare for roles of greater responsibility.

What I Do NOT Do

There are coaches and coaching organizations who work with people who have problems; people at risk of derailment in their career. I don't take on those assignments. There are life coaches who work with people to help them relieve stress and achieve balance in their personal life. I don't do that either. There are coaches who will help their clients become more technically proficient in their work. If you are not technically good at what you do, I can't help you.

What people are saying about Bill Hawkins' Executive Coaching abilities

Jim O'Brien – Chairman and CEO: Ashland Inc.

"Bill is an invaluable resource for our company. Our leadership programs have been successful due to his direction and guidance over the past fifteen years. Bill has also been a personal coach to many of our executives. They have made considerable progress on their personal development plan under Bill's tutelage which, in turn, makes them much more effective leaders."
Rich Daly – Senior VP of Marketing: TAP Pharmaceutical

"The Goldsmith process was so compelling and clear that it was obvious to me that we had to use it. Once I got into the program it became a self re-enforcing process from which all of the participants benefited not just me (the "coached"). It's fact based, data driven and provides real-time information to help the individual improve. However, the process doesn't stop there. It also offers real life situations as examples from one's trusted partners, coworkers and managers as supplements to the data. All around the best program in which I have ever been involved.

I've participated in structured coaching programs and informal ones through work. So I have a fair bit of experience as a coach. This was my first experience as a participant being coached. It was fabulous. The process Bill used is the most effective one I have used to affect long term change in behavior. It works. It helps people to see their behaviors and the resulting consequences from many points of view...data from 360's (baseline, 6-month check up and 12-month final assessment)...personal interviews...a coach's perspective and feedback...and trust building interactions with colleagues. All of these together build a compelling case for change and help the committed participant to really change."
David Furstoss – Director of Sales: Pactive Corporation

"What first comes to mind when I think about my experience with Bill Hawkins was how I entered into the coaching experience feeling the goal was to help me learn to leap over the career obstacles and launch me to the top. What I found out as the experience unfolded was that the biggest obstacle was not the company, employees or boss but rather Me, Myself and I.

The second item that comes to mind is that Bill helped me understand the impossible is only impossible because we tell ourselves it is impossible. Therefore, I took the tact that Bill and I were not creating a new me rather we were building a "Better" me. In all Bill allowed me the opportunity for true personal reflection and guided me through the constructive process of utilizing that reflection as a pathway to future potential. Now I can self guide, self reflect and self improve in ways that benefit the company, my employees, my boss and myself. Bill opened the door to a continuous evolution of my skill set and endless potential of personal success simply by teaching me to get out of my own way."
